I saw an advert the other day to become a driving instructor. It seemed quite good so I looked online under driving lessons uk for some more information. It told me about the various tests I'd have to go through as an instructor.I was quite surprised to see that I would have to do another theory test, and that the pass rate is much higher for an instructor than if I were taking it, whilst learning to drive.
I'd also have to undergo a practical test, to basically refine my driving skills to reach the standards of levels required to become an instructor. Another purpose of the practical test is to train me out of any bad driving habits I have picked up over the years. There is also a 40 hour practical test based on instruction ability and how well I can handle certain situations and if I'd be able to spot incorrect procedures and how quickly I can spot them. Apparently after the second test I would receive a temporary trainee licence which lasts for 6 months. Within that time I would have to pass the third test, but you are allowed 3 attempts at the third test before they fail you and remove your trainee licence.
I thought that I would have to undergo more training than that before I was given my trainee licence, but apparently that is it. I am seriously considering it, I remember when I had my driving lessons, I was really nervous to start with, but my tutor was brilliant and really made me feel at ease, and I passed my driving test first time. I consider myself to be pretty laid back and outgoing so I feel that new learners will feel comfortable with me teaching them and helping to get them through their driving test.
I read on a news website that 50% of drivers would actually fail a driving test if they had to undergo it the second time. A road safety experiment had been done on road users, some with over 30 years of experience and when they re-took their driving test, 50% of them failed. Everyone picks up some bad habits, but I wouldn't have thought that it would make them fail their test, it's quite scary to think of all those drivers on the road, who would actually fail their tests now.
